From the Desk of Nicole: Week 3

Canyon! Are you ready for some football?!

Tonight is our first theme week! Football! Wear a jersey, gear, be a cheerleader - get creative! Don't forget to take a team photo! Email that photo to canyonnewsletter@gmail.com no later than 5pm on Wednesday of this week to be included in the Facebook liking/voting. You'll want to be a member of the Canyon FB group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/cacanyon/

Also tonight! Our Monday Night Football Pool! The squares have been bought, proceeds have gone to charity and tonight we await the scores of the Oakland vs. Denver game. It starts at 5:30 so head over to Azar's early to watch the start of it before our games!

Refs, please make sure you're at your assigned field 10 min. prior for early games and head straight over for the late games.

Kickin' Ain't Easy and That's Just Dirtee - y'all have equipment tonight! Team Awesome and Ball Me, For Sure - please make sure the equipment is at the fields at least 15 min prior to game time.

Friendly reminder: Only captains are allowed to approach refs during the game. With that said, any time someone stops to chat with the ref over a call, that eats into your game time! And of course, please speak nicely and calmly.

And finally: standings through two weeks!

Take It From the Veterans

Now that we’ve gotten out the 1st week jitters, it’s high time we share a few tips to the rookies:

1. Don’t leave your phone unattended. Even those you think you can trust are not very trustworthy when it comes to your cellular device. Right, Devin?

2. Kickball is a 3rd grade sport. In 3rd grade we all learned that “caring is sharing.” So feel free to share that “Gatorade” of yours!

3. Everyone knows about your “secret relationship.” We all see you sitting next to each other on the bench, and both of you arriving to Azar’s later than everyone else. We all know you’re the last ones to leave the field because you were busy playing tonsil hockey in his car. We all know. Actually, you were really drunk last week and told a friend, who told a friend, who told me. I swore I wouldn’t tell. My bad!

4. We all love flip cup. We all take flip cup seriously. Please bring beer with you to the flip cup tables. When you leave to get beer/smoke/pee everyone is discussing what a jerk you are and trying to replace you. Don’t be that jerk!

5. Kickball is a dirty, dirty sport. The dirt in your eyes on the field can be a terrible thing. What’s not terrible are the awesome pickup lines we have at our disposal. I can do it in 11 positions, can you? Wanna round my bases? You’re welcome.

6. You shouldn’t yell or argue with the refs, ever. But accidents happen and what better way to make amends than to buy that amazing ref a drink at Azar’s to let ‘em know you’re sorry! All will be forgiven.

7. We’re not 5, so let’s use the restroom BEFORE the game starts. Peppertree’s restrooms aren’t close by and believe it or not there are penalties should you be MIA when it’s your turn to kick!

8. Remember how kickball is a 3rd grade sport? By then we should all know that name-calling is also a no-no.

9.  I would also advise you to save up your sick and vacation days for Tuesdays. Those Monday nights at Azar’s can be A LOT of fun!

10. And last, but not least, kickball is all about having fun! Have fun out there! Have even more fun by joining us at Azar’s after games and participating in all of the fun things we do. It’s not a shameless plug, it’s the truth!

From the Desk of Nicole: Week 1

Canyon Ballerz!

It's finally here! Week one of fall 2013! You can check out the schedule here: http://www.kickball.com/node/538860/schedule/view

Cojones and Rogues, y'all have equipment - please make sure to grab all bases, cones and balls (from both fields if you're playing on dirt).

A few things to please remember about tonight and all the nights:
  • NO ALCOHOL! No Solo cups, no cans in paper bags - BE SMART. You know those disposable coffee cups you see me carrying with a straw? I don't drink coffee through a straw...
  • Please clean up after yourself and your teammates after each game.
  • Games only have a 5 minute grace period - we're on a tight light schedule!
  • Shirts will not be in until next week (later for a select few). I will let captains know when they can get them from me if they would like them before Monday.
  • No metal cleats. Ouch!
  • There are no more PUPs, so when you're required to ref, each team must supply three refs (home plate, 1st base and 3rd base)
  • Only captains can discuss calls with refs. No yelling from the field or dugout, it's just not becoming!
  • And finally, please remember, we're ADULTS playing KICKBALL. Kickball! Have fun out there!
If you're not sure what team you were placed on, you can log in to kickball.com and on your main profile page, on the left side, it'll tell you your team name, captain and show you the rest of the roster.

Before and after games head on over to AZAR's!!! We love Azar's! Canyon players get:
  • 50% off appetizers (yum, fried pickles!)
  • $9 domestic pitchers
  • $13 import pitchers
  • $1 off drinks
  • CASH ONLY to receive specials (don't say I didn't warn you!)
  • Azar's is located at 2215 Michael Drive, Newbury Park, 91320 - super easy to get to from the fields and plenty of parking!
Since shirts won't be in tonight, so make sure to remind your awesome servers that you play Canyon Kickball! Enjoy some flip cup, dance on the stage and meet and mingle with your 243 new best friends!

Tonight also starts our first fundraising effort! Hosted by Fresh Prince of Ball Air (the pink team), it's our FOOTBALL POOL!

This week and next they'll be getting the grid filled up and collecting the $5/square for the Monday Night Football game during the 3rd week - Denver vs. Oakland. Reserve your square today - check out the Facebook Event for more details: https://www.facebook.com/events/583364151699331/

Want to reserve your square now? Fill out what you'd like and include your name and team and a member of Fresh Prince will find you to collect your money. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ah7kcfu3nz2qdGM5clR3aXUtNUxmUExiX0k0ZUVtelE

Proceeds from this event benefit Kick-it!

Phew! I think that's it! If you ever need something, have a question or just want to say hey, please feel free to find me on the fields! If you can't find me you can also hit up our Field Managers: EJ and Heather. EJ is on Fresh Prince of Ball Air (pink); Heather is on Rogues (cardinal red) and I'm on Team Awesome (coral).

Let's get this season started!
