4th of July Photo Challenge

For max of 10 points, each team will be challenged to make a holiday collage of their teammates celebrating the 4th of July. Collage must be:

* Use at least 2 photos for collage

* Something patriotic must be present in one of the photos 

* A WAKA ball must be in one of the photos (photoshopping a ball into collage doesn't count)

One point for each team member in the collage will be rewarded for a max of 10 possible points. Photos will be due Monday, July 7th at 5pm

Ca-Canyon: Social Challenge: Week 7: "In Your Cornhole!"

Week 7: "In Your Cornhole!"

* Face off against the team you played on the field               
               
* 2 players per team; one female & one male               
               
* First team to 21 wins             
               
Rules:

Every Cornhole / Corn Toss match is broken down into innings of play. During each inning of play each contestant must pitch all four corn bags.

A corn bag in-the-hole has a value of three points.

A corn bag that is not in-the-hole but lands with any portion of the corn bag resting on the cornhole platform is in-the-count. A corn bag in-the-count has a value of one point. For a corn bag to be in-the-count, it must not touch the ground or any other portion of the court prior to coming to rest on the cornhole platform. If a corn bag touches the ground before coming to rest on the cornhole platform, it is a foul and must be removed from the cornhole platform prior to the continuation of play.

In doubles play, the first side of contestants alternate pitching corn bags until they have thrown all four corn bags, then the remaining contestant (pitching from the other cornhole platform) continue to alternate in the same manner until all four corn bags are delivered and the inning completed. Delivery in singles play is handled in the same manner (but from the same platform) with each of the two contestants alternating their pitching of corn bags until all four corn bags have been pitched completing the inning.

The contestant who scored in the preceding inning shall pitch first in the next inning. If neither pitcher scores, the contestant who pitched second (last) in the preceding inning shall pitch first in the next inning.

The Cornhole / Corn Toss match can never end in the middle of an inning. Thus, if a team that pitches first reaches or exceeds 21 points, the game can not end until the other side is allowed to pitch all of their corn bags and the inning is completed.

Ties At The End Of An Inning – If the Cornhole / Corn Toss match is tied at 21 or more at the end of an inning, play continues until one team or the other achieves a higher score at the end of an inning and wins the match.

Skunks - The game shall be played to 21 unless a team scores 7 or more points at the end of an inning before their opponents score any points. It this case the game is a skunk and the team that scores 7 or more points wins the match.

This Monday, June 30th, show why we are proud to live in this wonder country of ours. Teams should come dressed in their best "Patriot" wear.

Spring '14: Theme Night #2: Patriot Games

Team photos need to be emailed to: canyonnewsletter@gmail.com by Tuesday night at 7pm. Each team that submits a photo will get 1 social point.

Winners will get bonus points to add to their social standings:

1st place: 3 social points
2nd place: 2 social points
3rd place: 1 social point

Rules:
1) If you like the photo, LIKE the photo.
2) You can LIKE as many of the photos as you want.
3) You may only tag members in the photos themselves.
4) No public soliciting of votes from people outside your team. Soliciting comments and/or tags seen will be deleted. (subject to disqualification)
5) Polls will close Sunday July 6th @ 7pm.

EJ and Robert Flannery for helping us set up Azar’s  for this event.   May I also say that we were so happy and impressed  that so many kickballers from Pegatron showed up despite their bye-week.   Rona from Game of Rogues for single-handedly beating 5 of Kickin’ Ain’t Easy guys at the Flip Cup Table!  Also, thank you to all that helped us raise over $300 for Kick-It!  You  guys are awesome!

• Each team will provide 2 females and 2 males               

• Teams will sing "Flip Cup" Chant together. Everyone will drink at same time, then flip cup. Once you land your cup, raise both of your hands above your head. Last player to raise their hands is out. Team to loss all for 4 players is declared the loser. Winning team will received 3 points.               

• You may use water - teams provide own beverages.

Find the "Sheriff" and have a teammate take your photo drinking from one of his "Flabongos."

Challenge #4:  This Is A Marathon, Not A Sprint  5 points max

Take a photo at each bar. An item with bar name must be in the photo to prove you were there.

Challenge #5:  Strength In Numbers  2 points

Team group photo with the most members wins. Tag / list your teammates please.

Social Challenge: Week 3: "Jenga! Jenga! Jenga!"

• Teams will send 1 male and 1 female player to participate in this challenge    
• Field team that lost, gets to decide which team goes first    
• Teams will alternate players throughout the game    
• Players must carefully remove blocks (using only one hand)    
• On Your Turn: Carefully remove a block from anywhere BELOW the top 3 completed stories. 
• You can touch other blocks to find a loose one - but if move a block out of place, you must fix it (using one hand only) before touching another block.    
• When stacking, always complete a 3-block story before starting a higher one.    
• Your turn ends 10 secs after you stack your block - or as soon as the player to your left touches one.    
• Keep removing and stacking blocks until someone topples the tower.    
• WINNING TEAM: The last player to stack a block without toppling the tower, wins 2 social points for their team.     
• LOSING TEAM: Setups up the blocks for the next game.    
• Report scores to WAKA CA Canyon account by Tuesday night @ 6pm.

Social Challenge: Week 2: "I Dance Dare You."

 A "Dance Dare" is a challenge where  someone has to dance behind peoples backs without the knowing about it. There are some Canyon rules to this. Here we go:

• Dancer must be wearing their team's WAKA shirt                       
• Dance Dare must happen at the field Monday night to another team                        
• Video should be at least 10 seconds long & you cannot get caught by the person you are dancing behind                         
• Videos due by 7pm Tuesday night, 5/20                        
• Team that post a video on time will receive three social points

Canyon Sprin'13: Mid-Season Booze Bus Info

Happy Saturday, Canyon Ballerz! 

This post serves to inform you about our crazy, awesome, epic mid-season booze bus! Margaritaville style! 

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 21st at 7pm. At this time only one ticket can be purchased per current player. Should tickets remain, additional tickets can be purchased on June 3rd. 

Here are the Booze Bus Details:

• When: Saturday, June 21st. Approx. 1pm-8pm
• Where: Bars, clubs and restaurants around TO/Conejo Valley. Specific stops and specials are still being ironed out. 
• Why: Because Canyon Booze Buses are pretty dang epic! Don't miss out!

From the Desk of Nicole: Canyon Spring '13: Week 1

Canyon Ballerz! 

 

It's everyone's favorite: Email of Awesome! Get out your calendars, phones and other planning devices and get ready to write down our season dates; themes; and other awesomeness! 

 

First, some housekeeping: 

• RULES! It's in everyone's best interest to brush up on the rules and at least know the basics. kickball.com/rules
• Here's a fun "Rules Clinic Refresher" doc that I borrowed from our friends at the CA Westside league. HERE
• Info Board! Located on the fence of dirt #2 will be an Info Board. It'll have that evening's schedule, field map and other info you may need that evening. 
• Alcohol: Peppertree has a strict No Alcohol policy. Any visible alcohol can result in us losing our permit with the city for-ev-er. Solo cups, cans/bottles in paper bags simply won't cut it. Coffee cups, reusable water bottles will cut it. Captains have already been forewarned, but if alcohol is spotted, or something that looks like it could be mistaken as such, will result in a paper forfeit for your team. 
• Sportsmanship: Canyon is full of blurred memories, questionable bed-mates and regretful texts. With that being said, we are going to respect each other both on and off the field. Taunting, verbal &/or physical attacks will of course, not be tolerated.

Saturday, June 21st. MARGARITAVILLE THEME! Channel your inner Jimmy Buffet and join the Facebook Event HERE for the latest on this season's bus. Tickets will go on sale in a couple weeks and per usual, it WILL SELL OUT! Do not wait! 

 

End of Season, or EOS, Party!

Playoff Tournament! 

Saturday, July 12th at 10am. This season the entire playoff tournament will take place on a sunny Saturday at Peppertree.

 

Rogues Night! 

Each season, the lovely Rogues team hosts a "Rogues Night" at Azar's. It's highly suggested you work out your DD situation now and request the next day off of work!

 

Social Standings!

We're introducing the Canyon Boot! A super cool trophy up for grabs based on social points! Each week we'll announce a fun challenge to complete or compete in for social points. The winning team gets their hands on the Canyon Boot...until next season.  You can follow the social standings HERE.

Week 1 Challenge: Buy a drink for a player you don't know, on another team, at Azar's. Take a photo and post it to the Facebook group with your team name and new friends name. One entry per team, worth 2 points. 

 

And now...the schedule! You can find the link HERE Double check for bye's; double headers; reffing and equipment duties! 

A few, but important, notes: 

• Game times are 8pm and 9pm. There is only a 5 min. grace period to start games. Refs and equipment duties do NOT have a grace period. 
• Refs and equipment need to be at the fields at least 15 min early. 
• With such a small grace period, plan to ARRIVE EARLY. Parking will suck, plan accordingly. 
• Players, please set up fields prior to the 8pm mark. Teams should be done warming up at game time. Please hurry on and off the field to maximize playing time. 
• No new inning after the 8:50pm mark. 6 innings may be played, however 3 innings is a complete game. Late games can play until the lights go out.  

The bar! Azar's is back! We love them and they love us! After games, head to Azar's for some post-game mixing and mingling. 2215 Michael Drive for your gps'.
